GARDENER'S Supply was founded in 1983 by a handful of enthusiastic Vermont gardeners. Today, we serve millions of gardeners nationwide, offering everything from seed-starting supplies, and garden furniture to flower supports and garden carts. Though our company has grown, we remain passionately committed to providing garden-tested, earth-friendly products that will help our customers have more fun and success in their gardens.

We understand the products we sell because we use them in our own gardens. Regular product training sessions and a gardening certification program for our staff help us provide the best service and support in the business.

This family owned and run business started out in a small general store in Zeeland, MI back in 1915 as a way for the local farmers to purchase seeds at the start of the season, and then have an outlet for their produce at the end of the growing season. The founder passed the business to his two sons, who split the business into seeds and produce. The seed store was established in 1955 in downtown Zeeland and quickly expanded to include lawn and garden needs, pet food and supplies as well as a full line of seeds. We pride ourselves on our quick, efficient service and our quality seeds.

Steele Plant Company, Tennessee largest Sweet Potato Plant Dealer, was founded in 1953 in Gleason, Tennessee by Claude Steele and Dudley “Butch” Sanders. Claude was a produce man and Butch was a school teacher. At first, the sweet potato farm was designed to be a second income for the pair, but it quickly became a full-time business and family tradition.

Today, the Steele family continues this tradition … even the youngest members of the family helping out. The Steele Plant mission continues to be “provide the best quality sweet potato plants and the best service possible.”
